How to import a Spotify playlist into eSound

Copy the playlist’s link in Spotify, then in eSound open Library, tap + and choose Import playlist. Open Import from Spotify, paste the link, tap Load playlist and then Import: eSound creates its own copy of the playlist in your library. The playlist has to be public on Spotify while you import it.

Before you start

  • The eSound app on Android or iPhone, signed in to your eSound account.
  • The link of a Spotify playlist. It looks like https://open.spotify.com/playlist/… and you can copy it from the playlist’s share options in Spotify.
  • The playlist must be public. eSound only reads the public link: it never asks for your Spotify password.
  • Importing works in the app, not in the eSound web player in your browser.

Import the playlist step by step

  1. Copy the link in Spotify

Open the playlist in Spotify and copy its link. When you come back to eSound, the link field offers to paste it.

  2. Open Import playlist

In eSound, go to Library, tap the + button and choose Import playlist. You can also find Import playlist on the Search tab before you type anything.

  3. Choose Spotify

Tap Import from Spotify. The card opens with a field for the link.

  4. Paste the link and load the playlist

Tap the clipboard icon inside the field to paste the link (it appears when you have copied something), then tap Load playlist. eSound opens a preview with the playlist’s songs.

  5. Tap Import

Tap Import at the top of the preview. A bar shows how many tracks have been loaded; when it is done the button says Imported and eSound opens your new playlist. You will find it in Library with your other playlists.

iPhone and Android

The steps are the same on both. On iPhone, iOS may ask whether eSound can paste what you copied in Spotify: tap Allow Paste. eSound only reads the clipboard when you tap the clipboard icon.

If the clipboard icon does not appear, long-press the field and paste the link from the system menu.

What to expect

  • Only playlists can be imported. Album links and songs you liked on Spotify are not playlists: put those songs in a public playlist first.
  • The imported playlist is a copy. Later changes on Spotify do not reach eSound; import the playlist again to get them.
  • Long playlists take longer to load: the counter on the preview shows how far the import has got.

If something goes wrong

  • This playlist is private: on Spotify, make the playlist public, import it, then set it back to private if you like.
  • Invalid Spotify link: the text you pasted is not a Spotify playlist link. Copy the link of the playlist again; it must contain open.spotify.com/playlist/.
  • Error importing playlist: check your connection and tap Import again.
  • Not available on the web app: you are using the web player in a browser. Import the playlist from the Android or iPhone app; it then shows up everywhere you use eSound.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Spotify account or Spotify Premium?

You need the link of a public playlist and nothing else: eSound does not ask you to sign in to Spotify.

Can I import my Liked Songs or an album from Spotify?

Not directly, because only playlist links can be imported. Add the songs to a public Spotify playlist and import that playlist.

Will the playlist stay in sync with Spotify?

No. eSound makes its own copy at the moment you import. To pick up later changes, import the playlist again.

Can I import playlists from other apps?

Yes. Next to Spotify, the same screen imports links from YouTube, Musi and Deezer, and playlist files exported from Demus and Youtify.
