How to listen to music together in eSound with a Jam

Open Settings › Jam (or the Jam button in the player queue) and tap Start a Jam. Tap Invite to share the link or the join code. Your friends open the link or type the code under Join a Jam and tap Join. Everyone hears the same music and adds songs to one shared queue.

Before you start

  • The eSound app on Android or iPhone, for you and for each friend.
  • An eSound account for everyone: you have to be signed in to start or join a Jam.
  • Jam is free. A Jam has room for up to 32 people.

Start a Jam and invite friends

  1. Open Jam

Go to Settings and tap Jam. If music is playing, you can also open the queue in the player and tap the Jam button next to Clear queue.

  2. Start it

Tap Start a Jam. The Jam carries your name, and from now on the songs you and your friends add go into one shared queue.

  3. Invite

Tap Invite. Share the link with Share link, or read out the Join code: six characters, and tapping it copies it. Anyone with the link or the code can join and add songs.

Join a friend’s Jam

  1. Use the link or the code

Open the link your friend sent, or go to Settings › Jam, type the code in the Code field under Join a Jam and tap Join. Capital or small letters both work.

  2. Choose where to listen

eSound asks where you want to hear the music: This device, or your friend’s speaker. You can change it at any time.

Inside a Jam

  • Everyone sees the Shared queue, with who added each song, and Suggestions picked from what the people in the Jam listen to.
  • By default, guests can control playback and change the order of the queue; each guest can remove only the songs they added.
  • The host can tap someone to Make host or Remove from the Jam.
  • Guests leave with Leave. The host ends it for everyone with End Jam; when the host leaves, the Jam ends.

If something goes wrong

  • The invite does nothing: sign in to eSound first, then open the link again or type the code.
  • The code is not accepted: check the six characters, or ask the host for a new invite: the Jam ends when the host leaves.
  • “This jam is full.”: the Jam already has the maximum number of people.
  • Someone lost their connection: they stay in the Jam for two minutes while they reconnect.
